About Domiciliary Service
Lancashire Domiciliary Service supports adults in their own homes in Chorley and the surrounding area. Our work is with adults who have learning disabilities, with autistic adults and with people who have physical disabilities, most of them younger adults. What we are for is widening somebody's life rather than managing it. In practice that means asking how a person wants things done and then doing it their way, even when another way would be faster for us, and spending time alongside somebody while they do a thing themselves instead of doing it on their behalf. Support covers cooking, shopping, money, appointments, travel, work or college, keeping in touch with people, and personal care and medication where that is needed. Where there is a physical disability, a good deal depends on equipment, layout and exact timing, and we help at the point of need rather than instead of the person trying. Consistency matters enormously in this work, so we keep support teams small, introduce new staff properly, and do not send unfamiliar people at short notice. Where somebody communicates in their own way, through speech, signs, symbols or behaviour, learning it is part of the job and we record what we learn so the whole team responds alike. Families, advocates and other professionals are involved as much as the person wants and no more. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
