About Allerton C&S N

We are Allerton in Blackpool, providing support to people in their own homes across the town and the surrounding area. We work with adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability, and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Many of those we support are younger adults who want to live in their own place with the right backing rather than in a care setting. Most of our work is about enabling rather than doing. Where somebody wants to cook for themselves, manage their own money, use public transport, keep a tenancy going or hold down a job or a course, we work at it with them patiently and we do not decide in advance what is beyond anybody. Where practical support is needed with personal care, medication or the running of a household, we provide it without making a person feel their life has been taken over. We take real care over who supports whom and we keep those arrangements stable, because this work depends on trust far more than on procedure. Our staff are trained around the individuals they support rather than in the abstract, and we make sure new workers learn how someone communicates before working alone.
