About NAS Community Services (North 2)
We support autistic adults and people with a learning disability in their own homes in Blackburn and the surrounding area, including younger adults building independent lives. Autistic people are not all alike and we do not support them as though they were. What we do is work out how each person experiences the world, how they communicate, what they need from their environment, what settles them and what wears them down, and then build the support around that. Predictability, clear information about what is happening and when, and staff who do not change every week are usually worth more than any programme. Support might mean help with a tenancy, cooking, budgeting, health appointments, getting to work or college, or having somebody steady alongside in situations that would otherwise be unmanageable. Personal care is part of it for some people and not for others. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do communicate and make sure every member of their team knows it, because a worker who misreads a person creates problems that need never have existed. Where someone becomes distressed, we treat it as communication and look for the cause. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please get in touch if you are arranging support, for yourself, a relative or someone you work with.
