About Laurel Court
Laurel Court supports adults in their own homes in Huddersfield and across Kirklees. We visit older people and younger adults, people with learning disabilities and autism, people with physical disabilities, and people living with sight or hearing loss. The purpose of what we do is narrow and practical. Somebody wants to carry on living in their own home, and a few things stand in the way, so we deal with those things. That might be help with washing and dressing, medicines, meals, the housework or the shopping. It might be support to get out to work, college, appointments or simply to see people. For younger adults it is often about building the skills that independent living requires, and our aim there is to become less necessary over time rather than more. We keep the number of different care workers around each person small, because being supported with personal care by somebody you have only just met is not a small thing to ask. We also write plans that say what the person wants, in their words, rather than a list of tasks that suits our rota. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather hear from you directly than rely on that, so we ask the people we support and their families how we are doing, and we act when the answer is not what we hoped.
