About Stonham Kingston House

Stonham Kingston House supports people in their own homes in Kingston upon Hull. We work with adults who have a learning disability and with autistic adults, with people who have mental health needs, with younger adults and with people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Our work is about making an independent life possible for people whose circumstances have often made that difficult. Support is agreed with the person, written in their own words and aimed at what they are trying to achieve rather than at a list of tasks. Keeping a tenancy, managing money, cooking and shopping, getting to appointments, finding work or training, rebuilding contact with family, and having somebody reliable alongside them when things are hard. Where someone has mental health needs, we agree in advance what a difficult stretch looks like for them and what they would like us to do about it, so nobody is making those decisions from scratch in a crisis. Where somebody is working on their relationship with alcohol or drugs, we support the plan they have chosen and do not lecture them about it. None of this works without consistent staff who know the person, so we keep teams small and settled and introduce new workers properly. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were pleased, and we take it as a standard to keep meeting rather than a badge.
