About Supporting Independence Team

We are a home care agency in Hull, supporting people in their own homes. We work with older people, including many living with dementia, with adults who have a learning disability or autism, with people who have mental health needs, physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss, and with younger adults. The name we work under says something about how we see the job. Support at home should make somebody more able to run their own life, not less. For one person that means brief calls covering personal care and medication so that the rest of the day belongs to them. For another it means longer visits built around getting out of the house, keeping appointments and managing the parts of the week that have become hard. For a family close to exhaustion, it may simply mean reliable help at the times of day that had become impossible. We agree the support with the person first, write it down clearly and review it when things change, including reducing it when it is no longer needed. Care that quietly grows because nobody revisited it is not a good outcome. Continuity is something we work at. The same carers going to the same people means a familiar face at the door and somebody who notices quickly when a person is not themselves. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about support at home in this area.
