We are Ridge Healthcare, a home care agency in Hull. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, including people living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Working in somebody's home changes the nature of the job. It is their space, their rules and their routine, and we are there by invitation. That shapes practical things such as asking before moving anything, putting it back where it belongs, and fitting the visit around the household rather than the other way round. For people living with dementia, continuity is a condition of the work rather than a preference. A familiar carer makes a visit possible where an unfamiliar one, however capable, may not. For somebody with a sensory impairment, a carer who already knows how to communicate saves everyone a great deal of effort. We keep families informed and raise concerns early rather than waiting for a crisis to make the point for us. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating.
