We are a home care provider based in Hull, supporting people in their own homes across the city and the surrounding area. Our work is with older people, with people living with dementia, with people who have a physical disability and with younger adults. What those people have in common is that they would rather stay where they are than move somewhere else, and our job is to make that a realistic choice rather than a hopeful one. What that looks like varies from household to household. For one person it is half an hour in the morning so the day starts properly, with help washing, dressing and taking medication. For another it is several visits covering personal care, meals and a check that everything is safe before evening. For someone living with dementia it is often the same familiar carer keeping the shape of a day intact, which is why we treat consistent rotas as a priority rather than a bonus. We spend real time on the first conversation, because what makes home care work is small, specific and never written on a referral form.
