About HomeTouch Care
HomeTouch Care supports adults in their own homes across the London borough of Islington and nearby. We visit older people, people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Almost everybody comes to us at a moment of change. Something has happened, or a slow accumulation of small difficulties has reached the point where carrying on unaided stops being realistic. Our first job in those weeks is to reduce the pressure without quietly taking the household over. We take on the parts that have become hard and we leave the rest alone, because capability that is removed for convenience is very difficult to get back. Day to day this looks like help with washing and dressing, prompting or giving medication, cooking, moving safely about the flat, laundry, shopping, appointments and time to talk. For people living with dementia we hold to the same carers and the same times as far as any rota allows, and we follow the routines already in place instead of introducing better ones of our own. Living in London makes consistency harder and more important, so we keep our rounds tight and local and we tell people who to expect. If we are running behind we say so. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. We keep asking the people we visit whether that still describes us.
