We work with younger adults and older people, including people living with mental health needs. Supported living means the home belongs to the person and we are there by arrangement. That changes the dynamic for the better and we try to behave accordingly. We begin with what somebody wants their week to look like, and only then work out honestly what help is needed to make it happen. For the younger adults we support, that usually means holding a tenancy, managing money and food, keeping in touch with people, and getting to work, college or appointments. Support for mental health is often about structure rather than tasks: being there in the morning when getting up feels impossible, keeping things from slipping, and staying a steady presence through the stretch where progress stalls. We do not treat a bad fortnight as a failure. For older people the work is usually more practical, with help at each end of the day so that staying at home remains possible. We aim to do as little as necessary, because support that takes over is easier to deliver and much worse for the person. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We are glad to explain how we recruit, train and supervise before anybody commits.
