Our visits are built around what the person actually wants rather than around a standard package. In practice that covers personal care given without rushing, support and prompting with medication, preparing meals, help with laundry, shopping and keeping the house in order, and getting out to appointments or simply out for some air and company. For some people the most useful part of a visit is not a task at all. Two things get most of our attention. The first is arriving when we said we would, because a call at an unpredictable time causes more worry than it settles. The second is sending people the person already knows, because nobody should have to explain themselves to a stranger every week, and a familiar carer is the one who notices when something is different. We are guests in somebody's home. The person decides how things are done there, and our staff are expected to remember it and to be straight with us when something needs to change.
