Southmere Home Care supports adults in their own homes in Greenwich and the surrounding parts of south east London. We visit older people, younger adults and people living with mental ill health. We begin with a conversation rather than a form. How does the day actually go at the moment? What is genuinely difficult, and what is fine? Who else is already helping, and what do they need from us? From that we agree what support would help, put it in writing plainly and get on with it. We would far rather start with less and build up than arrive with a package that takes over somebody's home. For some people that means help in the morning with washing, dressing, medication and breakfast. For others it is support to keep a tenancy and a routine going through a difficult period, to get to appointments, to manage shopping and paperwork, or simply to have somebody reliable turning up who notices how things are. We try hard to send the same carers to the same homes. Trust takes time, particularly where somebody has had poor experiences of support before, and consistency is what makes it possible. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We say so plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered. In the meantime we are happy to explain how we recruit, train and supervise our staff, and to answer any question before you decide.
