Bluedrive Care Homes provides support at home to adults in Greenwich and the surrounding parts of south east London. The people we work with include adults living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment and people living with an eating disorder. That is a wide range, and it only works because support is built around the individual rather than issued as a standard package. What somebody living with dementia needs from a visit has very little in common with what an autistic adult running their own household wants from us, and we plan and staff accordingly. The practical work covers personal care, support and prompting with medication, meals, household tasks, shopping and help to get out and about. For people with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we announce ourselves and explain what we are doing, because being unable to follow what is happening is isolating in a way that is easy to underestimate. Some of the areas we work in carry real stigma, and people have often had more experience of being judged than helped. We try to be straightforward and useful instead.
