About Amersham House
We are Amersham House, based in Enfield, and we provide support in people's own homes and in the community across north London. Our work is with adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, adults living with mental ill health, and younger adults. What we do is less about tasks than about making a life workable. That might mean personal care and help with medication, or it might mean cooking, shopping, managing money and post, keeping on top of a tenancy, or getting out to work, college, appointments and the places somebody actually wants to be. Support is planned with the person, in their own words, and it stays theirs to change. Two things matter more than anything else in this work. The first is consistency: the same staff wherever the rota allows, routines that hold, and changes explained in advance rather than sprung on people. For autistic people that predictability is a need rather than a preference, and we take sensory comfort seriously for the same reason. The second is doing things with somebody rather than for them, because independence is far easier to keep than to win back once it has gone. For people living with mental ill health, what usually helps most is steadiness: turning up when we said, noticing when something has shifted, and not treating a bad week as a crisis. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to talk about whether we would suit somebody.
