Then we build a small, settled team around them, so the person at the door is somebody they recognise. For people living with dementia that familiarity matters more than anything else we could offer, and it is the first thing lost when a rota is run for the provider's convenience. We protect it. Where somebody has a physical disability we learn how their equipment is used and how they prefer to be helped to move, and we follow their way of doing things.
