We support people in their own homes, from short daily calls to longer visits, so that going into residential care is a choice rather than something that happens by default. The people we visit include older people who need a hand with washing, dressing, meals and medication, people living with dementia who do best with familiar faces and a familiar order to the day, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and younger adults who want support shaped around their own plans. In a coastal town where families are often scattered along the coast or further inland, we know that our visit is sometimes the main point of contact in a person's day, and we do not treat it as a task to be got through. Our approach is straightforward. We visit first, we listen properly to what the person actually wants help with, and we write the plan around that rather than around our rota. We keep the same carers going to the same households wherever we can, and we talk to families as much or as little as the person wants us to. The Care Quality Commission has not yet issued us with an overall rating. That means anyone considering us should ask harder questions, and we would encourage you to. Ask how we recruit, how we train, what happens if a carer runs late, and who you speak to out of hours.
