About Thames Homecare Service
We are a home care agency working across Ealing and the surrounding parts of London. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, autistic adults and people with learning disabilities, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. We also support people living with eating disorders and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use. That breadth means attitude matters as much as competence. A number of the people we work with have had experiences of being judged rather than helped, and a carer who turns up with views about how somebody came to need support is of no use at all. We recruit and train with that firmly in mind, and we supervise properly rather than hoping. Our starting point is a proper conversation about what the person wants changed and what they want left alone. Plans are agreed rather than handed over, and they are revisited when circumstances move, which they frequently do. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We would rather use that as a floor than a credential. We ask the people we support how we are doing and give more weight to the critical answers than to the kind ones.
