About Employ My Ability (EMA)
We are Employ My Ability, supporting people in their own homes in Dorchester and across Dorset. Those we work with include adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Work and learning are central to how we think about support, and that shapes what we do day to day. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a placement, we treat that as the purpose of the support rather than a pleasant extra. It is usually the thing that makes the rest of the week worth organising, and it is where independence actually gets built. So we begin with what the person wants their life to look like rather than with a list of tasks. Our aim is to make it possible for somebody to do things themselves and then to step back: cooking, managing money, travelling independently, handling the everyday business that can be daunting alone. Where somebody communicates differently we sort that out properly at the beginning, because everything else rests on it. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people we support what we should be doing differently.
