About Deafness Support Network
Deafness Support Network provides care and support at home to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or partially sighted, and to people who are deafblind, in Northwich and the surrounding area. Communication is not a detail in this work, it is the whole of it. We support people in the language and the way that suits them, whether that is British Sign Language, deafblind manual, speech with the right conditions to lip read, or a combination that a person has worked out for themselves over a lifetime. Our staff are chosen and trained for that, because a carer who cannot communicate properly with the person in front of them is not providing care, however willing they are. The practical support looks much like any good home care. Help with personal care, medication, meals and the house, and support to get out to appointments, the shops and the places somebody wants to go. The difference is that information, choices and conversation are genuinely accessible, so people are not left to guess what is happening in their own home. We also pay attention to the isolation that sensory loss can bring, and we work with people on staying connected to the community they belong to rather than only on tasks. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please get in touch to talk about support.
