Guyatt House Care supports adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults in their own homes in Cambridge and across Cambridgeshire. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are genuinely pleased with that and careful with it too, because a rating describes one particular week and everything that earned it has to keep happening afterwards. What sits behind it is not complicated. We take the word support seriously and try hard not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties: what a good week looks like, what stands in the way of it, and what they would much rather manage themselves. The rota comes after that, not before. In practice that means somebody alongside a person at college, at work, on the bus, at an appointment or through the early weeks of living independently for the first time, as often as it means help with the ordinary business of running a household. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same small team stays around a person, changes get proper notice, and we hold to what we agreed even when it is inconvenient for us.
