We work mainly with people who have physical disabilities and with younger adults who need support to live independently. Supporting somebody at home is different from supporting them in a care setting. It is their space, their routine and their decision how the day runs, and our job is to make their chosen life workable rather than to impose a safer looking version of it. In practice that can mean personal care, help with medication, cooking and household tasks, or it can mean support to get to college, to work, to appointments, to see friends or to take part in things that would otherwise be out of reach. For people with a physical disability, the things that matter most are equipment, moving and handling done properly, and above all enough time. Transfers and personal care take as long as they take, and rushing is where both dignity and safety go. We also expect people to take on more over time rather than less, and we plan for that.
