About SDR Care Services
SDR Care supports adults in their own homes in Brighton and the surrounding area, working mainly with younger adults who have a learning disability and with autistic people. Our starting point is that the person we support is in charge. We are there to make the life they want workable, which means asking what they would like help with, what they want to manage themselves, and what makes a day go well or badly. Support might cover personal care and medication, but very often it is about the ordinary machinery of an independent life, including cooking, shopping, laundry, budgeting, appointments, travel and keeping in touch with people. We take communication seriously and learn how each person expresses themselves, in words or otherwise. For autistic people in particular, a predictable routine, respect for sensory needs and a small, consistent staff team are usually what make support feel safe rather than intrusive. Where someone wants to build a skill, our job is to support the practice and then step back, even when doing the task ourselves would be faster. That takes staff who know the person properly, which is why we keep teams small and stable. We work closely with families, advocates and professionals where the person wants us to, and we make sure they remain part of the conversation rather than the subject of it.
