About DCA
DCA Brighton provides support to adults in their own homes in Brighton and the surrounding area. Much of our work is with younger adults, and our experience covers learning disabilities and autism and physical disabilities. What our support is for is widening somebody's life rather than managing it. That means asking how a person wants things done and then doing it their way, even when another way would be quicker for us, and spending time alongside somebody while they do a thing themselves rather than doing it on their behalf. We would far rather spend an hour helping a person learn something than ten minutes doing it for them. Support covers the ordinary business of a life: cooking, shopping, money and bills, appointments, travel, work or college, keeping in touch with people, and personal care and medication where that is needed. Where somebody has a physical disability, a good deal depends on equipment, layout and exact timing, and we help at the point of need rather than instead of the person trying. Communication comes before everything else. Not everybody we support uses speech, and learning how an individual shows what they want, and what they refuse, is the foundation of every other decision. We record what we learn so the whole team responds alike. We are registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission, and we are glad to discuss a particular situation.
