We are a home care agency based in Sutton Coldfield, providing support to people in their own homes across Birmingham and the area around it. We work with older people and with younger adults, including people with learning disabilities and autistic people, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Supporting that range of needs means resisting the idea of a standard package. For an older person, help may centre on personal care, medication and meals. So we start by asking what someone wants their life to look like, agree how we can help with that, and then keep checking whether the arrangement is still working. We try to send the same staff consistently, because trust takes time to build and is easily undone by a procession of new faces. Our carers are trained for the needs they are asked to meet and have senior colleagues they can reach when a situation is unclear.
