About Potters House
Potters House provides home care across Barking and Dagenham, supporting people in their own homes. Our work is with older adults, many of them living with dementia, with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic adults, with people managing a mental health condition, and with younger adults. Those are quite different kinds of work and we try not to blur them. For most of the older people we visit, the whole point of us is that they stay in the house they know rather than move. For younger adults and for people with a learning disability, our job is usually the opposite of taking over. It is making independence workable, which can mean cooking together, sorting out travel, managing appointments, or dealing with organisations plainly not designed for people who think differently. Where mental health is the central issue, the work is mostly patient and ordinary. Keeping a routine steady when somebody is unwell. Noticing early when things are sliding and saying so without making a crisis of it. Backing off when somebody is well. We write plans in language the person can actually read, and we try to send the same few workers to each household. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will come out and listen first.
