About Jhumat House
Jhumat House provides care at home to adults in Barking and across the borough of Barking and Dagenham. We visit older people who need help to keep living in their own houses, adults living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need support to live independently. Our visits cover personal care given without rushing, prompting and support with medication, meals, laundry, shopping and help to get out to appointments or simply out for some air. Some people need half an hour first thing and nothing more. Others need several longer calls a day, and needs shift over time, so we review arrangements honestly rather than letting a plan go stale. We put most of our effort into two things. One is turning up when we said we would, because a visit at an unpredictable hour causes more worry than it relieves. The other is continuity, because a carer who already knows somebody is the one who will spot that they are eating less or seeming muddled this week, and that noticing is what keeps people out of hospital. This is a varied part of London and the people we support come from many different backgrounds, which shapes practical things such as food and language.
