About Fanshawe Avenue
Fanshawe Avenue provides care and support to people in their own homes in Barking and across Barking and Dagenham. We work with older people, younger adults, people with learning disabilities, autistic people, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Support belongs to the person receiving it. It is their home, their routine and their decision how help happens, and we fit around that rather than expecting the reverse. We visit first and take our time over the conversation, because what families assume is difficult and what the person finds difficult are often not the same thing. From that conversation we agree a plan, with family or an advocate involved whenever somebody wants them there, and we revise it as circumstances change rather than at fixed intervals. Visits cover personal care, medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping, getting out to appointments, work, college or something sociable, and company. For autistic people and people with learning disabilities we give notice of change well in advance and learn how each person prefers to communicate. Where sight or hearing is affected we think about how we announce ourselves and explain what we are doing. We keep the team around each household small, because being helped by somebody who already knows you is most of what makes this work. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about support in the Barking area.
