About Hillside

Hillside is a residential care home supporting older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autism, and we also offer planned respite stays. Our aim is that this feels like a home that people live in rather than a service they receive. Residents have their own rooms and their own routines, they decide how their days are spent, and our staff fit around that with help for personal care, medicines, meals and the practical running of the place. Where somebody can do something for themselves, we leave them to it, and where they need a hand, we give one without making a performance of it. For adults with learning disabilities and autism, we take time to understand how each person communicates, what makes a day feel manageable, and how much warning they need before anything changes. Those things are not extras. They are the difference between somebody settling in and somebody struggling. We encourage life to carry on outside as well as inside. Family and friends are welcome here, and we support people to get out to the activities, groups and places they care about. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break, and they let people see what we are like before making any longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives what they think of us, and we would far rather hear a concern early than a compliment that is not really meant.
