About Acrefield House
Acrefield House is a residential care home in Birkenhead supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people living with mental health conditions. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We treat this as somebody's home rather than a setting they have been placed in, and that shows in the everyday decisions. People choose how their rooms look, what goes in the shopping, how a weekend is spent and who is part of it. Support is planned individually and reviewed as people change, because what somebody wants in the spring is often not what they want by the autumn. For autistic people, and for anybody who finds unpredictability difficult, the environment is part of the care. Noise, lighting, changes of staff and unfamiliar visitors can shape a whole week, so we plan for them rather than reacting afterwards. Where somebody lives with a mental health condition, we work alongside community teams so that support stays consistent, and we treat a hard period as something to get through together rather than as a failure. Respite stays give a family carer a genuine break and give the person staying a change of surroundings with support in place. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.
