About Heronsmede
Heronsmede is a residential care home in Old Windsor supporting adults with learning disabilities. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We mention it because it reflects the way we have chosen to work rather than anything clever. Staff who stay for years, so that people are supported by faces they know well. Real effort put into communication, so that people make their own decisions rather than have decisions explained to them afterwards. A house that belongs to the people living in it rather than to us. People arrange their own rooms, take part in the shopping and cooking as much as they want to, and decide how their days are spent. We support people to get out to work, to college, to clubs, to appointments and to see family, because a home is somewhere you go out from and come back to. Short respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which can give a family carer a break or let somebody try the house first. An outstanding rating is a standard to keep rather than a trophy. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.
