About Milkwood House Care Home
Milkwood House is a residential care home in the countryside near Petersfield. We care for older people, including many living with dementia, and for younger adults where we are sure we can support them well. Being where we are shapes daily life here. There is space, quiet and fresh air, and we use them: people sit out when the weather is kind, walk in the grounds, and watch the seasons change from their own windows. For someone who has always lived in the country, that familiarity is not a small thing. Inside, we aim for the feel of a house rather than an institution. People bring their own furniture, hang their own pictures and keep their own hours. Help with washing, dressing and moving about is given quietly and at the person's own pace. Meals are cooked here, and we would rather ask what somebody fancies than hand them a menu and expect them to adapt. With dementia, we find that knowing a person's life well is what makes the difference. We gather that with families when someone arrives and keep adding to it, so that staff can respond to the person rather than to the behaviour in front of them. We offer respite as well as permanent stays. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall, and we are always pleased to show families round without any obligation.
