About The Bill House
The Bill House is a residential care home in Chichester, West Sussex. We support older people, people living with dementia, adults managing mental ill health and younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a short period. We keep things homely and unhurried. People get up when they want to, eat what they actually like and spend their days as suits them, whether that is joining in with what is going on or sitting somewhere quiet with the paper. Our staff know the people here, which means they can tell the difference between someone having a quiet day and someone becoming unwell. Supporting people with dementia and people with mental health needs under one roof takes care and consistency. We give staff proper training, we keep routines steady, and we pay attention to the things that unsettle individuals rather than applying one approach to everybody. Where someone's needs change, we involve their GP and the local community teams early. Chichester is on the doorstep and we use it. Trips out, visits from family and friends, and keeping up with the things people have always done are all part of how we work, not extras bolted on. Relatives are welcome and are listened to. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you would like to look round, we are glad to show you.

What the inspectors found
A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of The Bill House. Report published 27 May 2021.
- 20 April 2021
- 38 places, 32 people were using the service at the time
Safe
Inspectors looked at this because concerns had been raised about medicines management. They found the manager had not been aware of the need to have a member of staff on duty at night who was trained to give medicines. Inspectors also found that risks had been assessed and acted on, staffing levels met people's needs, new staff were recruited safely, and people received their medicines as prescribed.
Well-led
Inspectors found the manager did not have a clear understanding of when to tell CQC about abuse or alleged abuse. This was explained to them during the inspection. A system of audits had been put in place to check the care people received and to help make improvements.
What people told the inspectors
One person told inspectors they were happy living at the home and spoke of the kindness of staff.
