About Ardington House
Ardington House is a residential care home in Northampton. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Respite stays are available. We run this as a home that people live in rather than a service they receive. Rooms belong to the people in them and get arranged accordingly. The weekly shop is decided by the people who will eat it. Weekend plans are made by whoever is going. We ask rather than assume, and being told no is a perfectly good answer. Much of what we do is about widening what is possible rather than occupying the day. Cooking something you actually want. Getting confident with money. Managing a journey into town alone. Keeping a course, a job or a friendship going. Progress can be slow and can go backwards, and our part is to keep the chance open without pressure. Where a physical disability affects how somebody gets about, we design around the person rather than expecting them to accommodate the building. And where mental health is part of the picture, the useful thing is steadiness: keeping to what we have agreed and noticing when somebody is not themselves. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our last inspection.
