About Notrees
Notrees is a residential care home in Hungerford, West Berkshire. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We aim to be a home rather than an institution. Residents bring their own furniture and belongings, keep their own routines and decide how the day goes, and our job is to give the right amount of help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and getting about without quietly taking over what somebody can still manage themselves. Doing too much is as much a failure of care as doing too little. Dementia care is a large part of our work. We take time to learn each person's history, their habits and the things that reassure them, because that knowledge is what allows staff to respond to the feeling behind a difficult moment rather than simply to the behaviour in front of them. A calm environment, familiar faces and a predictable rhythm do most of the rest. Where a resident has a sight or hearing impairment we adapt how we communicate and keep things where they expect to find them, because small changes cause disproportionate difficulty. Respite stays get the same planning as any other admission. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are very welcome to visit Notrees and see the home on an ordinary day.
