About Leyton House

Leyton House is a residential care home in Waltham Forest, supporting adults who are managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays, whether as a planned break or as a steadying period for somebody who needs one. Our work is less about doing things for people than about helping a life keep its shape. Getting up, eating properly, taking medication, having something in the week that belongs to the person rather than to their care. For many of those living here, mental ill health has made those ordinary rhythms hard to hold alone, and a settled household where people know you well is what makes them sustainable again. We are careful to keep this feeling like a home rather than a unit. People have their own space and their own routine, they come and go as adults, and they have a real say in how the place runs. Progress is uneven and does not follow a timetable, so we try to be steady rather than to push, and we do not treat a difficult week as a failure or a setback to be managed. Being in London means work, courses, buses and places to meet people are within reach, and supporting somebody to use them on their own terms is usually worth more than anything we could arrange indoors. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What we watch more closely than the rating is whether the person we helped this morning felt properly looked after.
