About Ivy Grove

We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia and residents with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. We try to run the place as a house rather than an institution. Residents wake when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy, keep their own furniture and photographs around them, and decide for themselves how much of the day to spend in company. Support is agreed with each resident and their family, written down so that everyone knows what has been decided, and adjusted as needs change. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. Steady staffing, predictable routines and an unhurried pace prevent a great deal of confusion. We ask families to tell us about a person's earlier life, their work, their interests and the things that reliably comfort them, and we use that every day. For residents with a physical disability, the emphasis falls on independence and on nobody having to wait for help with things they would rather do themselves.
