About The Sycamores
The Sycamores is a residential care home in Pontefract, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, adults with physical disabilities, and people living with sight or hearing loss. We run this as somebody's home. The people who live here choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list, what happens at the weekend and who they spend time with. Our staff are there to make those choices workable, which might mean support with personal care, help with money and appointments, practical assistance to get out and about, or backing somebody to try something they have not done before. Autism support is worked out individually. We pay attention to sensory needs, to how much warning somebody wants before a change, and to the ways people show discomfort that have nothing to do with words. We write down what we learn so that support does not depend on who happens to be on shift, and we keep revisiting it as people change. Communication matters here more than most places. Where someone uses signs, symbols, an aid or their own particular way of making themselves understood, our staff learn it, and we never make a decision about somebody without a proper effort to include them in it. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome and we are happy to show you around.
