About Hillcrest
Hillcrest is a residential care home in Pontefract, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic people and adults living with mental ill health. Respite stays are available as well. We are a household rather than a unit. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say over how the day goes. The staff team is kept consistent, because support from people who know you well is quite different from support from whoever happens to be on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week holds, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. Independence is much easier to keep than to recover, so if somebody can manage a task with a prompt, we prompt rather than take over. We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and then let you come and judge for yourself. Families and professionals considering Hillcrest for somebody are welcome to visit and question us closely.
