About 1 Hill Close
1 Hill Close is a small residential care home in Pontefract, supporting adults who need help with daily living in an ordinary house rather than an institutional setting. Most of our work is with adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic. Because we are small, we are able to get to know people properly, which matters a great deal. We learn how someone communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what unsettles them and what they would like to be able to do for themselves. Support plans are written with the person, and with family or an advocate where that is wanted, and we change them as people change. Independence is the point of the place. If somebody can do something themselves, or could learn to with patient backing, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it for them. That might be cooking, managing money, using local transport, or getting out to something they genuinely enjoy. We also offer respite stays, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere familiar and well staffed. We should be open about our regulator. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not content with it, we have taken it seriously and there is work in hand to put things right. We are happy to talk that through properly with anyone considering us, and we would encourage you to come and see the house for yourself.
