About Furze Hill Lodge
Furze Hill Lodge is a residential care home in Tadworth, supporting older people and younger adults from across Surrey. We are a residential home and not a clinical setting, which we say plainly because people deserve to know what they are choosing. What we provide is a household where the practical difficulties have been taken off somebody's shoulders. Help with washing and dressing given without fuss. Medication handled properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Somebody awake through the night. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Most people who move in have just come through a hard stretch, so we go slowly at the start. We learn how a person likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything, and we expect that somebody may be grieving for their own home while settling into a room here. Routines matter. If a person has had a bath at night for fifty years, we do not switch them to a morning shower because it suits a rota. We support both older residents and younger adults, which keeps the house from feeling like a single long corridor of sameness and stops anybody being treated as a category. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. The best way to judge us is to turn up, have a cup of tea, and ask the people who live here what they make of the place.

More about the care at Furze Hill Lodge
Residential Care at Furze Hill Lodge
Saying plainly that a home is not a clinical setting is a service to families, because it defines what is on offer. Furze Hill Lodge is registered for residential care, meaning the practical difficulties are lifted from someone's shoulders: meals, personal care, medication, laundry and company when it is wanted. Where health requires a nurse on the premises, for wounds, tubes or conditions needing hourly attention, a nursing home is the right category. Residential homes rely on visiting district nurses and GPs, so ask how that is organised. Ask what would happen if needs increased after a move, and whether a room is held during a hospital stay. The regional £1100 to £1450 a week against the council figure of £800 to £950 is where a top up is usually discussed.

Ask how a person's existing routine is learnt before anything gets rearranged. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and how long a call bell usually takes. Younger Adults at Furze Hill Lodge
A house that mixes ages avoids becoming a long corridor of sameness, which does the younger residents most good. Furze Hill Lodge is registered for younger adults, so ask what the past month contained for somebody well below the average age. Ask who else of a similar age lives there and how going out independently is handled.
