About Oakleigh
Oakleigh is a residential care home in Godstone, Surrey. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. Nobody here is on a schedule they did not choose. We think a care home that runs on staff convenience stops being a home fairly quickly. Dementia care here rests on knowing people. We ask families for the history, the working life, the places and the music, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. Without them we would be managing a condition rather than keeping company with a person, and residents notice the difference even when they cannot name it. Respite guests are properly looked after rather than merely accommodated. We find out beforehand how somebody likes things done. Where somebody wants to take a risk, such as walking unaided or going out alone, we work out how to make it safer rather than simply saying no. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If we cannot meet somebody's needs properly we will say so rather than take them anyway.
