About Grindon Mews Short Break Centre
Grindon Mews Short Break Centre in Sunderland provides short breaks and residential care for adults with a learning disability and for autistic adults, including older people and younger adults. Short breaks are what we do, and we think they deserve the same care and thought as a permanent placement rather than being treated as a holding arrangement. People come to us for a planned stay so that a family carer can have a proper rest, or at shorter notice when circumstances change. Because stays here are often short, settling somebody quickly matters a great deal. We ask in advance about routines, food, how a person communicates, what helps when they are anxious and what they would rather do for themselves. Getting that right from the first hour is the difference between a break that works and one that everybody regrets. The environment counts as much as the support. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to go all shape how a stay goes. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them rather than the reverse. Family carers deserve a break they can actually relax into, and that only happens if they trust what is going on here. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.
