About Recreate Liberty

Recreate Liberty is a care home in Ipswich, providing residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Many of those we support are younger adults, and we offer respite stays. Our work starts from the assumption that the people living here have their own plans and that our job is to make those possible rather than to design a life for them. That sounds obvious and it is surprisingly rare in practice. It means asking properly, listening to answers given in whatever way somebody communicates, and then actually acting on them. Communication is where we put most of our early effort, particularly for people with sensory impairment or those who do not use speech. Once the team has found the ways an individual genuinely understands and expresses things, and everyone uses them consistently, almost everything else becomes easier. Beyond that it is ordinary life. Choosing how a room looks, what to eat, how to spend a Saturday, who to see. Support present for what is hard and absent from what is not. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. The most useful thing we can offer is an open door, so please come and see the house, meet the team and ask us anything you want to know.
