About Cambridge House

Cambridge House is a residential care home in Haverhill, Suffolk, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Respite stays are available too, giving families a planned break in the knowledge that the person they care for is settled. We are a household rather than a facility. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a genuine say in how the day goes. The staff team is kept consistent, because support from people who know you well is a different thing altogether from support from whoever is on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week holds, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. A task done slowly by the person themselves is a better outcome than the same task done quickly by us. For those with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits properly and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment, along with as much independence as somebody wants to keep. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering Cambridge House for somebody are welcome to visit and ask us whatever they need to know.
