About Oak House
Oak House is a residential care home in Rugeley supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including people living with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. We support younger adults as well as those who have been with us for many years, and we offer respite stays. This is a home, not a placement. People have their own rooms, keep their own things and take part in decisions about how the house runs. We support people to cook, shop, manage money, use transport and take part in whatever they enjoy locally, because independence is built through practice rather than granted. Communication sits at the centre of our work. Some of the people we support use speech, some use signs or symbols, and some show us what they need through behaviour that takes time to understand. We learn each person's way rather than expecting them to fit ours, and we make sure information about their own life reaches them in a form they can actually use. Routine matters here, and so does warning. Change is planned for and talked through rather than sprung on anybody. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you are looking for a place in Staffordshire, please contact us and come and visit. We are happy for people to come several times before making a decision.
