About The Coach House
The Coach House in Burton On Trent is a residential care home supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, alongside older people, and we also take respite stays. People generally live here for years, so we treat the house as theirs. The people who live here have a say in how their rooms look, what is bought and cooked, and what the week contains. We would rather spend time helping somebody do a thing for themselves than do it quickly on their behalf, even when that is less convenient for us. Practical support covers personal care, medication, health appointments, money and travel, and it is given in the way each person has agreed. We write those details down carefully, because for many of the people here consistency is what makes life feel safe. A new member of staff should be able to read how somebody likes their morning to go and get it right. Communication is at the centre of the work. Not everybody uses speech, and understanding how a person expresses a preference, a worry or a refusal is what turns choice from an idea into something real. We learn each person's way and record it, and we involve families and advocates as much as the person wishes. We encourage life outside the house, with work, college, clubs and friends. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and visitors are welcome.
