About St Edith's Court
St Edith's Court is a residential care home in Leigh on Sea. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support after illness. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, keep their own furniture and photographs about them and carry on with the habits that make them feel themselves. Relatives are welcome without appointment, and we would far rather people dropped in than waited for a visiting slot. Supporting somebody living with dementia asks for patience and a good memory for detail. Our staff learn the small things: the favoured chair, the songs that settle somebody, the hours that are harder, the stories worth hearing again. None of that appears in a care plan, but it is what separates a home that works from one that merely functions. Being near the estuary matters to a good many of our residents, and we make use of it, because getting out does more for most people than anything that happens indoors. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in this part of Essex, please arrange to visit.
