About Respite Unit for Adults with Learning Disabilities
We are a short breaks home in Southampton for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who stay with us are younger adults. Short breaks are a particular kind of work and we treat them as such. A person may be with us for a few days or a week or two, which means we have to learn quickly and get things right first time. Before anybody stays, we spend time with them and with the people who know them best, learning how they communicate, what their routines are, what they enjoy and what unsettles them. That information is shared with the whole staff team rather than held by one or two people. The point of a stay is that it should be worth having in itself, not simply a gap in somebody's usual life. People choose how they spend their time here, what they eat and who they do things with, and we support them to get out and do whatever they actually want to do. Short breaks also matter enormously to families, who often go years without a proper rest. Knowing their relative is somewhere they are happy is the whole basis of that working. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to find out more.
