About Portcullis House
Portcullis House is a residential care home in Langport, Somerset. We care for older people, including many living with dementia, and for younger adults, and we take respite bookings for people who need a stay of a few weeks. We aim for a home rather than an institution. Rooms belong to the people in them, with their own furniture and photographs. Meals are worth sitting down to, the day has a shape without becoming a timetable, and there is company and activity for those who want it alongside quiet corners for those who do not. With dementia, steadiness does most of the good. Familiar faces, a predictable routine, calm surroundings and time given rather than rushed. We learn about somebody's earlier life from them and from their family, because knowing who a person has been changes how you talk with them now. Where somebody becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than reaching for a label. Our staff know the people living here, which is how changes in health are picked up early and taken to the GP or district nurse before they turn serious. We keep close working relationships with local health colleagues in this part of Somerset. Families are welcome whenever suits them and are part of how decisions are made. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please ring if you would like to look round.
