About Critchill Court
We are Critchill Court, a residential care home in Frome, Somerset. We provide a home for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, and we also take respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else where it belongs, which is with the person. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. Where health needs go beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover them ourselves. Dementia shapes much of our day. We have found that correcting somebody's version of events achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us far more than any list of symptoms. Someone who worked for decades to a particular rhythm often still carries it, and a routine built around that goes better than one imposed on top of it. Respite guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here permanently, whether they are recovering after a spell in hospital or giving a family carer a rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
